Practice Philosophy

“We do not rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.”
-Archilochos

There is no such thing as over-preparing: Coaches will have game-planned rigorously for opponent

Basketball is extensive: we will cover all fundamental facets of the game every day through both practices

Practice takes planning: practice plans will be prepared the day before practices occur

Practices are planned down to the minute: With so much to cover, there is absolutely no time to waste

We are always communicating: the players will receive constant feedback about the details

We will be patiently urgent: it is critical players get details down–coaches must find ways to guarantee it

If players fail to understand or implement, we TEACH. It is our responsibility to get them where we need

Teaching requires patience and different styles of learning. Basketball is no different than the classroom

We encourage our girls as much as possible. In such a demanding and critical program, praise is vital

We are never going to embarrass or demean players: nobody messes up on purpose—we teach

Basketball is a nuanced game of details, details, details. Coaches must be experts of the minutiae

The on-court product is on us: players will not do what we have not coached and conditioned them to do

Every moment and every interaction counts: we will get what we allow/reinforce/emphasize

We have to love our players enough to hold them accountable to the highest of standards despite emotion

We do not make excuses, ever. We will find a way.
