“The shuai-jan is a snake that is found in the Ch’ang Mountains. Strike at its head, and you will be attacked by its tail; strike at its tail, and you will be attacked by its head; strike at its middle, and you will be attacked by head and tail.”
–Sun Tzu
“The battlefield is a scene of constant chaos. The winner will be the one who controls that chaos, both his own and the enemy’s.”
-Napoleon Bonaparte
Basketball is about stopping the other team from scoring more points rather than scoring more points
We are a defensive team. We will focus heavily on and stress the priority of defense as our core identity
A game is won well before the game through our defensive strategy and practicing of that strategy
We must know our opponent inside & out. Players will have seen offenses on video, paper, scrimmaged it
We must prepare for and have a technique and protocol for the many different offensive actions possible
Variety: we will have multiple defenses in the full and half court. Preparing for us will be exhausting
Violence of action: we will attack with the utmost intensity when the offense is in its weakest positions
Take away strengths: we want to force teams to play the style of basketball they are not accustomed and attack weakness
No paint: we do not allow teams to get paint touches, the rim is forbidden: we force low percentage shots
We must focus on the fundamentals of movement and footwork just as extensively on this side of the ball
We want to be on defense in games. We hold court while threatening and occupying defensive spacing
We are patient. We do not gamble. We create the conditions for steals, we do not go for steals
Communication is key. Talk early and often. We will talk loudly and dramatically like in the movies
