Good communication in all circumstances is vital. I will be a great communicator through the practice of consistent communication and making myself available to those directly involved in our program.

Communicating with Players

• Precede constructive criticism with praise
• Honesty and humility are key components
  • Our players will know that we make mistakes just as they do
• Embarrassment will never be used as a tool to motivate or correct
• Athletes will know they can come talk to me about any concerns they have whether it be basketball related, school related, or life related.
•  Off-season will be time to build strong bond and rapport
• Pre- and post-season individual player meetings will be conducted
  
  

Communicating with Coaches

• Provide clear and concise expectations
• Encourage input from each coach
• Invest time in their lives to ensure they know that I am aware there is life outside of basketball
• Plan practices and discuss game strategies together
• Hold weekly staff meetings

Communicating with Faculty and Administration

• Faculty will know that academics come before athletics
• Make every member feel a part of the basketball family
• Keep open lines of communication about grades and behavior concerns
• Use “chain of command” when communicating with administrators when necessary
  
  
  

Communicating with Parents

• Will be available, sincere, patient, and honest
• Will use email as a broad form of communication; personal concerns will be handled via telephone or in person
• Clearly define my expectations and desired role of the parents
• Hold pre and post-season parent meetings to cover necessary information

Communicating with Officials

• Professionalism towards officials will be used at all times
• Treat every official with proper respect
• Utilize pre-game to generate good rapport with officials
• Provide compliments as often as possible

Communicating with Student Body

• Basketball players and coaches will attend other athletic events
• Provide morning announcements in regards to basketball events
• Encourage basketball players to promote their games

Communicating with Media

• Make ourselves available for the media for interviews
• Promote the team and players
• Allow players to be available to the media
• Always give positive comments
