Captains

Captains: Developing Leaders

“If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient?”

-Morgan Freeman

Captains’ Philosophy

How can a Captain succeed at leading our program?

Be kind. How you treat people characterizes who you are

Don’t get your feelings hurt when people complain. People will ALWAYS complain!

Positivity is not overrated. It is essential

Always help others. There are opportunities everywhere

Welcome questions

Always be open minded. Your way may not always be the best way

Stay humble

Don’t let your patience have a limit

Be invested in EVERY conversation, interaction

Reach out to and include underclassmen! Remember how scary it is to be them

Don’t expect credit for ANYTHING and be glad to do EVERYTHING

Be grateful and demonstrate gratitude. Others may not know how to

Think very carefully before you speak. You cannot take back your words once out

Say “please” and “thank you”

Do not tolerate negativity! Nip it in the bud immediately

Tired? Suck it up! “I don’t get tired.”

Carry your energy, every day. “Objects in motion stay in motion.”

NEVER COMPLAIN! Never complain in front of the team especially!

“Overcommunicate.” There is no such thing!

As Captains, do everything together. You have to be a united front

Have thick skin. Holding people accountable makes you the “bad guy” to most

Everything is about the team

Find a way. No excuses, play a champion!!!
