Basketball Philosophy

Fundamentals First, Always

“Kobe’s workouts were legendary, not necessarily for the intensity but for the meticulous attention to detail in everything he did. In this particular workout, Kobe spent 45 minutes working on basic footwork. For anyone that played basketball, this would include pivoting, crossing over, etc. Simple stuff that you probably learned in grade school or junior high.

Afterwards, he was asked, “Kobe, you’re the best player in the world. Why would you spend 45 minutes of your workout doing such basic footwork?”

Kobe smiled and raised an eyebrow: Why do you think I’m the best player in the world?”

The Metroplex contains communities that either can or cannot afford basketball trainers and AAU participation during the summer and those that can are at an extreme advantage and do take advantage.

Our program will focus on the physical actions and skills that make up the game. We cannot execute a game plan without the abilities required to navigate within the terrain of the game…“skills pay the bills.”

Our coaches will be masters of teaching the game of basketball SUPERIOR to that of paid private coaching.

Fundamentals and skills are the primary focus our program will have at every level with the latter stages kept in mind for progression.

To have the best trained coaches and the best trained players, we have to do focused work as if we have no talent or athleticism to bank upon. Talent and athleticism are luxuries we cannot assume.
